  4. Turn the cap around and place other end of cap back on tube.
  5. Twist cap to break seal, then remove cap from tube.
  6. Part the hair on the neck at the base of the skull until the skin is visible. Place the tip of the tube on the skin and squeeze the tube to expel the entire contents directly on the skin. Do not get this product in your cat’s eyes, or allow your cat to ingest this product. The product is bitter tasting and salivation may occur for a short time if the cat licks the product immediately after treatment. Treatment at the base of the skull will minimize the opportunity for the cat to lick the product. Do not allow the product to run off.

What does “do not apply the product to run off” mean?

    • Adam Retzer September 28, 2017, 3:47 pm

It means to try to keep the application on the directed area of the cat, the skin on neck (as per the instructions). If the hair isn’t properly parted, the product may end up getting squeezed onto the hair and then running off the cat, instead of reaching the skin where it can work effectively.

If the some of the product gets onto the hair instead of the skin, should I apply another dosage?

        • Adam Retzer August 28, 2019, 11:51 am

I am not sure if that is a good idea or not, as it could lead to over-dosing. It may depend upon how much product reached the skin, which would be hard to determine. Consulting a veterinarian would probably be the best option.

What is the time needed for complete drying of the advantage plus for cats, for safe handling by humans. Also, what safety measures should be taken to protect other cats that could be subject to toxicity if they clean the treated cat at the application site (back of the neck)?

    • Adam Retzer April 12, 2018, 12:47 pm

The flea medicine should spread over a cat’s entire body within 24 hours after application in a process called dermal translocation. Here is a page with more details about how flea medicine spreads.

As a result, it would be best to avoid petting or handling the cat until 24 hours has elapsed. Likewise, it would be best to keep cats separated for 24 hours, so they don’t end up licking a concentrated dose on another cat’s neck.

I am ready to put the second dose on my cat I puppy sit tomorrow will this hurt the puppy they play together all day

    • Adam Retzer September 2, 2018, 11:18 am

I apologize for the late response. The puppy should be fine. The main concern would be if the puppy licked the back of the cat’s neck shortly after application. This is where a high concentration of ingredients would be. However, the medicine should be fully dispersed across the cat’s body in 12-24 hours and no longer as much of a concern at that point.
