Color of Flea Eggs

Cat flea eggs are shiny and translucent, with an off-white to white color. When they’re first laid, the eggs are almost colorless. However, they become a bit darker and more opaque as they age, eventually taking on a pearly-white color. Due to their color and translucency, the eggs resemble grains or salt or tiny pearls.

The tiny size and white color of flea eggs makes them difficult to see on light-colored fur or fabric. However, the eggs are easily seen by the naked eye while residing on dark-colored material.

Chemicals & Darkening

Flea eggs will blacken when exposed to an insect growth regulator. The treated, darker eggs appear a purple or brown color.
