Flea Eggs

JohnP asked 7 years ago

Hi there, currently dealing with an infestation and I was wondering if flea eggs were able to stick to socks? I know they naturally aren’t sticky as that is how they spread, but can they get stick in the fibres of socks? If so, should I avoid wear socks in my bedroom after being around infested areas?

Many thanks, Sam

Sam,

Socks can probably pick up flea eggs if you walk through an infested area. However, the odds are slim that you will spread the infestation this way. This is because after larvae hatch from the eggs, they must feed on adult flea feces (flea dirt). They’ll die without flea dirt in the area. Eggs and feces fall from infested hosts together, usually when the host grooms itself. I suppose it’s possible for your socks to pick up both eggs and flea dirt and then drop them off in the same location, but it isn’t likely.

Warm regards,
Adam
