I noticed fleas on my dog back in October.  I treated him and used a peppermint and clove spray to initially treat the house.  This didn’t work, so I used Raid flea carpet and room spray.  This also didn’t seem to do much, so I finally called in Orkin.  They were out to treat twice.  I have constantly vacuumed and laundered, sprayed Raid again, and I am still getting bit.  I will find a dead flea on my dog once in a while, but I haven’t been able to find fleas anywhere else.  However, at night, even with my pants tucked into socks and my shirt tucked into my pants, I am still waking up with numerous bites.  I have wood floors with deep cracks, and I try to treat those specifically, but it seems I am getting nowhere.  Any recommendations?  I am losing my mind over here!  Thanks.

Hi Sara! What did you use to treat your pup? Was it just one flea treatment when fleas were found, or have you repeated it? Most flea treatments last a month, but there are some longer acting ones out there. I would say the best thing you can do along with the home care is to keep up on the flea treatments when they are due. Any lapse or late application can give the fleas the upper hand again. A dead flea can not reproduce, and they numbers will continue to taper off. I hope you get to the bottom of it! To say fleas are a nuisance would be a understatement. 🙁

Hi! I have been using Advantix. I no longer see fleas on him, but I am still getting bit at night. I am keeping up with vacuuming and just hope for the best at this point. It has been five months at this point, and I don’t know what else to do. Thanks for your insight!

Sara,

Please see our page on How to Get rid of Fleas. Have you used monthly flea drops on the dog? Are you vacuuming regularly? Also, keep in mind it usually takes at least 8 weeks to end an infestation.

Hi, yes, I am to both questions. It has been five months now, and I am still getting bit. I will just continue to vacuum and clean and hope for the best. Thanks!
