dehumidifier

ellen asked 6 years ago

Can you tell me if using a dehumidifier in a room will help control/kill fleas. Our only indoor cat has been treated with capstar twice and also received frontline twice. I’m vacuuming everyday and have sprayed the entire house and furnishings twice. I’m still getting a bite every couple of days and my cat still has flea dirt.

Ellen,

Though fleas are sensitive to relative humidity, a dehumidifier probably won’t have much of an effect. This is because adult fleas live on their host, and immature fleas live in protected micro-habitats (e.g. base of carpets). These micro-habitats have their own micro-environment where temperature and humidity are kept stable. Altering the surrounding conditions won’t have much of an affect on the conditions of the micro-habitat.

I hope this helps!
Adam
