My parents recently found they have a pretty severe flea infestation brought by their indoor/outdoor cat. They have treated the cat with a preventative (Soresto collar) and I think they’ll do some vacuuming and washing of things but I don’t think they’ll hit things super hard and just hold for the best. They are visiting my home in about 3 weeks and Im so worried they’ll being fleas into my home on clothes or luggage, etc? I have a dog but she is treated with a year round preventative. What are the odds of them being fleas into our home in any stage? Could eggs etc be stuck on suitcases or clothing? Their car lays on EVERYTHING!l On the flip side we will be visiting THEM in December (2 1/2 months away) what are chances we could take back fleas with is when WE return home?

April,

There is a chance they may bringing adult hitchhikers or eggs. I don’t know the exact odds. However, if your dog is on year-round prevention, the fleas won’t be able to get a foothold in your home, even if they are brought into your home.

I’d say the same in true for when you visit them. There is a chance that there may be hitchhikers. With your dog properly treated, this shouldn’t result in any lasting issue.

To reproduce and continue the infestation, the fleas need to feed, mate, and lay eggs on the dog. They won’t have that opportunity with the dog properly treated.
